Community services & volunteer opportunities
Through the development of the municipal Community Services Departments, where initiatives that support community programs and services aligned with education, job creation, and skills development would have a home and the support of their Elected Officials. As our community grows the next generation of children deserves to learn about the renewable energy industry. Local government is meant to be a functioning part of a child’s development, the younger we start working with the youth, the greater positive impact we can make in their lives. As a municipality, we ought to offer those resources and more, which will take much cooperation, coordination, and communication. Assembly District 104 is moving forward and we can develop through Urban Regeneration - without displacement.

Sitting down with Ali Tawfiq Muhamamad
Since leaving city council, Muhammad has founded both Melanin Unchained and Next Step Hudson Valley, two distinct institutions that are dedicated to the eradication of systemic oppression in the greater Hudson Valley. For the majority of our conversation Muhammad’s voice was boisterous; steeped in the legacy of the leaders he admired—Malcolm X, his father. But when speaking about his organizations, his inflection dulled to a whisper—he needed the description to be perfect.
What is the power of voting?
Ali T. Muhammad is an American citizen living in Newburgh, NY, where he advocates for community development through civic engagement and volunteerism.
Muhammad’s goal is to create inclusive opportunities by adding value to Assembly District 104, developing a safe, welcoming, and more connected community
The district is currently struggling with a poverty rate of 25.4% due to a lack of growth opportunities for the city. Furthermore, home ownership has become nearly impossible as property values climb, leading to rent prices increasing as well.
Muhammad said that the Hudson Valley needs many changes: community development, support for families, urban revitalization, job implementation, economic development, efficient and equitable fixes to city infrastructure, accessible and affordable transportation, and more rigorous supervision over community boards and departments.

Stop Danskammer Coalition Applauds Permit Denial for Danskammer Fracked Gas Plant
“There’s no need to continue poisoning us — our community, our constituents, neighbors — with fossil fuel emissions. If we have the options and opportunity to utilize a cleaner and more efficient form of energy, we ought to. If we care about the future of our city and the next seven generations, the answer to Danskammer is NO. We’re grateful the DEC is acting accordingly,” said Ali T. Muhammad CEO of Melanin Unchained.
